TWO men have been remanded in Korovou Prison charged with the murder of a 37-year-old welder as a result of an accident in a bus garage in Nasinu.

A 17-year-old and 24-year-old Mohammed Irshad appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The court heard the victim was working under a bus and asked the 17-year-old to turn the steering wheel to tighten the dragging arm.

Instead, Mr Irshad allegedly turned on the ignition to free the steering wheel. This caused the bus to suddenly jerk forward and as a result, the tyre ran over the victim.

The man was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has prompted the police to again warn people to be careful in their work environment, especially when exposed to things and substances that could be damaging to their health and lives.
