e-ticketing set to roll

SENIOR citizens and people living with disabilities should not face difficulties paying bus fares when the new e-ticketing system rolls out next year.

That's the message from Land Transport Authority.

Speaking to The Fiji Times, authority spokesman Alfred Wiliame said there won't be any fare increases or changes to the system.

"It will be the same. Senior citizens will be charged half fare and people living with disabilities will travel free," Mr Wiliame said.

He said like all other citizens, they would be issued with e-ticketing cards following consultations with the Ministry of Social Welfare. "The same policy will apply. The only difference is that the system is moving from a cash to cashless basis," Mr Wiliame said.

Meanwhile, the LTA together with the Ministry of Education is working with subsidised school students who receive government bus fare concessions in the central and eastern division.

The general public will be introduced to the e-ticketing system next January.
