A SUBMISSION has been made to replace some clauses of the iTaukei Affairs Act for better health services in villages.

In his submission to the Constitution Commission at Sigatoka, Kinivuai Naba said there was a need to review the iTaukei Affairs Act.

"When you want to raise health issues in the village, the Health Department says iTaukei villages are guided by the iTaukei Affairs Act," Mr Naba said. "That is why people keep their livestock in the village, people bury their dead at their doorsteps because the Health Department cannot do much because of the iTaukei Act.

"I believe this is also a major cause of many diseases spreading in villages,"

Mr Naba said infrastructure in villages should be of comparable standards that were used in urban areas to prevent the damage caused by natural disasters.
