Iliesa Delana's achievement has united the people in this time of need, says Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said.

While addressing more than 4000 people at the Vodafone Arena yesterday, Commodore Bainimarama said the nation would be so proud of Delana for his tremendous achievement.

In his letter to Delana, he said this moment would be cherished by all citizens of Fiji.

Commodore Bainimarama said Delana had brought Fiji a sense of unity and pride that was greatly needed at this point in time and in Fiji's pursuit towards democratic governance.

"I firmly believe that he has been and will be the catalyst in this process," Commodore Bainimarama said.

"The sense of happiness, appreciation and unity brought about by the achievement of this remarkable young man is something citizens of this country and our younger generation would cherish for a very long time," he added.

The Prime Minister's letter was delivered to Delana after the joyful celebration at the Vodafone Arena yesterday.

The government also thanked his coach Fred Fatiaki, the chef de mission Sainiana Tukana, and the physiotherapist Sharlene Nand, who were members of Team Fiji and who accompanied Delana to London.

Government also thanked Varea and Ani Fatiaki and their family for their confidence in him.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau also thanked those who had supported Delana in his journey to success.
