A BUSINESSMAN who attempted to stowaway had his bench warrant cancelled by the Suva Magistrates Court.
A statement from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) said Ben Padarath had a bench warrant issued against him when he did not appear on the last court date in July. Mr Padarath was produced before Magistrate Janaka Bandara yesterday.
FICAC lawyer Kitione Waqavonovono submitted that bail be revoked because Mr Padarath had breached his bail conditions.
Defence lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry referred to case authorities which implied that bail conditions needed to be much stricter rather than revoking it altogether. He suggested his client have two sureties and report to a police station twice a day.
Mr Bandara told Mr Chaudhry to make a formal bail application and await prosecution's response. He also revoked Mr Padarath's bail pending a formal bail application.
The matter has been adjourned to September 25.
