TRIATHLON Fiji has named the national side for the World Triathlon Championships in Auckland, New Zealand next month following the completion of the business house series over the weekend.
The six-member team include Andrew Pene (manager/coach), Stephen Thon (Masters 60 years), Nau Dakuliga (Open), Caleb Koroi (under-23), Isikeli Rawlinson (U18) and Lui Pene (U16).
Association president Andrew said they selected the players based on their performance throughout the series.
The 6th and final event of the series was held on Saturday at the Olympic Pool in Suva.
Pene said seven teams and a total of 26 participants took part in the competition.
"The impressive performance of the day was Caleb Koroi's two hours 30 minutes and 58 seconds in the Olympic Distance which is the fastest recorded time over the last two years," Andrew said.
"Koroi's time now replaces the business houses series previous fastest time of 2hr 35min and 15s of Nau Dakuliga on June 16 and 2hr and 40min by Petero Manoa on July 14."
In the individual grade, Koroi, Petero Manoa and Dakuliga finished on top in the Olympic event while Isikeli Rawlinson won the sprint event.
Toma Pene and Sarah P finished on top in the individual super sprint event.
In the teams' event, Marist Brothers' High School I won the sprint event while Marist Brothers' Primary I claimed the super sprint event.
Ministry of Works Team grabbed the Olympic event.
Results
In the team supersprint event (400m Swim/10k Bike/ 2.5k Run) the Navy team 1(42m.01s) took 1st place in the Men's competition with Navy 2 (43m.18s) in 2nd and Marist Primary (55m.04s) in 3rd. In the ladies category Police team (42m.28s) took 1st place and Ministry of Works Team (46m.38s) finished 2nd.
In the team Sprints event (750m Swim/20k Bike/5k Run) MBHS Team (1hr: 18m.33s) took 1st place. In the ladies category Cycling Fiji (1hr: 43m.26s) took 1st place.
In the individual Supersprint (400m Swim/10k Bike/ 2.5k Run) Toma from MBPS finished in 1st place with a time of (40m.05s) with Jeremiah Rafai (55m.59s) in 2nd place.
With the individual Sprint (750 Swim/20k Bike/5k Run) the 1st placed male was Isikeli Rawlinson (1hr: 15m.23s) with Lui Pene (1hr: 18m.33s) in 2nd place
With the individual Olympic (1500 Swim/40k Bike /10k Run) the 1st placed male was Caleb Koroi (2h: 30m.58s) with Petero Manoa (2h: 50m.18s) finishing 2nd. Nau Dakuliga (2h: 41m.24s) was the 1st female.
