National Fire Authority (NFA) officers in the Northern Division had good reason to celebrate on Friday night at the Labasa Fire Station.

Divisional fire officer Northern, John Pillay, hailed the recent fire drill competition and awards night a huge success.

Being the only division that successfully completed all fire drill competitions within the year, Mr Pillay said the NFA in the Northern Division had set the standard for other stations around the country.

"This is a team building exercise and it is very good to see fire officers from Taveuni and Savusavu join in the celebrations of the awards night on Friday night.

"This is a show of unity among families and fire officers in the division," he said.

Mr Pillay thanked the fire officers and their families for the support and understanding the roles of fire officers which were demanding at times.

Chief guest Josefa Fuakilau praised the fire personnel for giving business houses and the people of the north a good night's sleep knowing that their properties were safe under watchful eyes.

He also acknowledged the NFA's participation in ensuring public safety during natural disasters.

Top honours for the best disciplined team went to Taveuni Fire Station.

The overall winner during the day's competition were officers from the Savusavu Fire Station. Awards were also presented for team efforts.
