PEGGED as the festival of power, praise and prayer, the Arise Festival 2012 starts at 5pm today at Lautoka's Churchill Park complete with food stalls, ferris wheels and a performance stage.

Organisers have been setting up the stage for the past few days in preparation for week-long activities including night rallies, seminars and workshops.

According to the festival's website, the carnival is expected to feature international guest speakers, international mass choir, workshops, Fijian cultural shows and trade fair presentations by the Lautoka Chamber of Commerce.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Arise Fiji Healing Seminar conducted by international healing evangelist Reverend John Mellor.

Mr Mellor is an Australian evangelist whose ministry had humble beginnings when he worked as a missionary pastor among mostly Aborigines and stockmen of the Northern Territory of Australia.

He was based in Katherine — a remote outback town where he first received his calling to start a healing ministry.

He now travels the world healing the sick through God's power. He will feature on Wednesday at at the International Rescue Centre in Waiyavi.
