THE Vanua Shield will be re-introduced into the Tailevu Rugby Union club competition next season.
This is after the games committee graded the clubs into two divisions — the Senior First and Senior Second.
The Vanua Shield will then be the challenge trophy for the Senior 1st while a new trophy will be introduced for the Senior 2nd.
TRU official Tevita Bolavanua said they could introduce the Vanua Shield challenge this season.
"Next year we will have teams challenging the Vanua Shield once more. We have a new format this season so we could not continue with the challenge matches. It was like this last year," he said.
"What we are doing is to grade teams into Senior First and Senior Second. The Senior First will then compete for the Vanua Shield next year while we will find another trophy for the Senior Second," Bolavanua said.
Meanwhile, today, Army Tailevu will play Mokani in the finals of the first round of club competition.
Army boasts some provincial reps like Leone Nakarawa, Sevuloni Lutu, Sunia Bainivalu, Mosese Vasuitoga and Manueli Gade.
Tailevu skipper Esiria Vueti will lead the pack for Mokani and Fiji under-20 fullback Tikilaci Vuibau will man the number 15 jumper.
The game kicks-off at 3.30pm today.
