AFL showdown
SUVA City Swans and Rewa Delta Wild Cats will battle it out in the AFL Fiji Ladies Day at Albert Park tomorrow. The nine-a-side match is organised by local volunteers Nick Ryan and Richard Bebovich. The match will kick-off at 2.30pm.
IDC draws
THE 2012 Courts Inter-District Championship (IDC) draws will be done today at the Courts Samabula branch. Labasa is the defending champion of the tournament. The draws are scheduled to be done at 11am.
Touch rugby
THE Fiji Touch Rugby Association will resume its Suva weekly competition at Furnival Park in Toorak today. Teams like First Touch, Roosters, Barbarians, Bombers, Kia, Flamingos and Kanavi Blues will be competing in the men's super premier division. Voltage and Bomage will battle it our in the women's grade while the U16 match is between Bombers and Flamingos.
Training camp
LEVUKA-based weightlifter Julia Timi has been selected to attend a training camp at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia from September 24 to 06 October 2012. Timi is the latest Fijian to train at the institution which already has the likes of Manueli Tulo and Maria Liku.
Cricket league
THE Suva Cricket Association is awaiting the availability of Albert Park to kick start their weekly league competition. Vice president Ashney Singh said the venue was undergoing some refurbishment work. "We are liaising with the Suva City Council at the moment and the refurbishment work will most probably finish in mid-October," Singh said.
Rafiq laid to rest
FIJI Football Association technical officer Mohammed Rafiq was laid to rest yesterday at the Nasinu Cemetery. Rafiq passed away on Saturday while attending an Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) coaching course at the National Football Academy in Ba. Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel said the national football body had lost a very capable person.
Fitness test
THE Fiji under-21 netball side will meet today at the National Fitness Centre in Suva. Coach Moape Vu will be conducting a fitness test to determine the progress of the players. The 18 players in the national squad were given training programs to follow to prepare for the World Youth Championship in Scotland next year.
