THE Health Ministry is working towards resolving the short supply of medicine in the country.
Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma said during the last year the ministry took important steps to ensure all Fijians had access to medicine and treatment.
"The Bainimarama government is making real progress in improving health care for all Fijians," Dr Sharma said.
He said in the past 12 months the Fiji Pharmaceutical Services and Biomedical Centre put in place strategies to resolve the medicine shortage.
Outlining the strategies ministry spokesman Peni Namotu said, the ministry had established the Fijian Logistic Management Unit to organise, monitor and support all activities within the logistics system and improve communications between the centre and health facilities.
"The inclusion of the technical working team in forecasting to determine the annual medicine demand for the new year and the training of nurses in basic inventory management practices have already shown a marked improvement in the practices at health centres and nursing stations," Mr Namotu said.
He said supervisory visits were being conducted in the follow-up to training and there was strong evidence of compliancy and application of skills and knowledge in stock management activities.
