THE New Samaritan Mission International (TNSMI) has secured funding assistance from the Ministry of Women for the completion of its new women's centre at Waidra in Naitasiri.

Minister for Women Dr Jiko Luveni, who visited the mission earlier this week to learn about government's programs for rural women, is expected to provide $5000 for the completion of the centre.

"It will be a national women's centre designed to facilitate training and coordinate income-generating activities for our women representatives from all over Fiji," she said.

Mission executive director Misiviliame Nakavou said: "The construction of the centre started last year with contributions from women and we needed supplementary funding to have a full-fledged facility.

Mr Nakavou said the ministry would also provide six sewing machines to help the women.

"This donation will be a timely resource for the centre to channel the women into tailoring business where each of the trainees will be given $100 to start their business and encouraged to buy their own sewing machines."

Apart from sewing, he said the women would have the opportunity to participate in micro-finance programs.
