RAINFALL over the past two days has hampered sugarcane farmers efforts to supply cane to the Lautoka mill.
Drasa Sector grower and president of the Fiji Cane Lorry Operators Association, Mahendra Prasad, said while many farmers supplying the country's biggest sugar mill were frantically trying to harvest and load trucks, the boggy conditions had not made it an easy task.
"We are trying our best but it is very difficult for cane lorries to go into fields and our worst fear is that as cane supply slows, the Lautoka mill may be forced to reduce the crush rate or temporarily stop until the weather clears or cane supply from the rail system improves," he said.
Despite cane supply issues caused by the weather, Mr Prasad said the growers were enthused by mill operations.
