LAUTOKA district has achieved its target of registering 50,000 people via the electronic voter registration (EVR) system.

EVR Lautoka branch co-ordinator Nitindra Chand said despite meeting its target, EVR officials had been deployed to the Lautoka Hospital, offices, rural areas and settlements in an attempts to register more people.

He said the EVR process ended with positive response from the people.

"Our mobile team visited various organisations like offices in the central business district, subdivisions, the Lautoka Corrections Centre, hospital wards and various government departments for registration.

"We have met our target but we don't want to leave anyone out of this important process. We have one team that has just recently returned from Yasawa and we are expecting to register more people over the remaining two days.

"We are urging those who have yet to register to be registered and to have a say in the upcoming elections."

For Navosa, about 4000 people have been registered, says assistant roko tui Navosa Marika Nagata.

"Most villages were visited twice in our attempts to register all eligible voters and we are happy with the responses," he said.

More than 170,000 people have been registered in the Western Division.
