THE Vodafone ATH Friendly North Festival Committee has taken a proactive approach in ensuring the cleanliness of Labasa Town by giving 10 eco-friendly litter bins to the town council yesterday.
Carnival committee president Mohammed Yasin said the gift was in line with the carnival's theme of a Healthy Living - Healthy North.
"Northerners need to embrace the habit of a healthy living and this donation ensures our citizens develop healthy habits, especially with the disposal of litter," said Mr Yasin.
"All these efforts are geared towards ensuring we have a healthy north.
"We share in the dream of the Ministry of Health in encouraging healthy lifestyles for the people of Fiji." Labasa/Savusavu Town special administrator Vijay Chand lauded the committee, saying the carnival president and its members had supported the council in the past years.
"The festival committee donates about $10,000 to the council every year and this is something that has been enhancing us in our bid to better our waste management program," he said.
"We will also place the eco-friendly rubbish bins in areas out of the town boundaries so the people of Labasa Town can appreciate the committee's donation."
