FORMER Nadroga and national sevens star Joeli Lutumailagi had a successful surgery last week and is recovering at his Narbonne home.

A statement from the Narbonne rugby team doctor said that Lutumailagi had a successful surgery last week and was released from hospital.

The doctor said the hard-running centre would be out of contact rugby for three months but may resume playing between four to five months.

Lutumailagi injured his neck during a friendly match for his Narbonne team against Belziers last month.

Lutumailagi, who was one of Fiji's top players in the last few seasons of IRB Sevens World Series joined the club early this year.

Narbonne plays in the French ProD2.

Lutumailagi signed a two year playing contract with the club.

Lutumailagi was the second high profile sevens player injured this year after lanky Mitieli Nacagilevu suffered a neck injury during the Marist 7s in March.

Nacagilevu missed out on the rest of IRB series after helping the team win the Gold Coast 7s in Australia in the opening round of competition.
