THE second phase of the combined Red Zone operations between the Land Transport Authority and the Fiji Police Force was completed last Friday.

According to the authority, between August 3 and August 31, 465 drivers were issued traffic infringement notices (TIN), 201 were handed vehicle defective orders while 13 had their cars impounded.

LTA spokesman Alfred Wiliame said the recent data showed the number of traffic infringements had decreased. However, he said recent road fatalities had revealed that more needed to be done.

"Despite our operations showing that the number of offenders is growing smaller, it still concerns us that deaths on the roads are still happening," he said.

Mr Wiliame said there have been 30 road fatalities this year, the same number this time last year.
