Tailevu Naitasiri (T/N) have one hand on the Viti Levu premier division title after their 2-1 win over Rakiraki at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Goals in each half from Hoteshwar Prasad and Jale Vota respectively gave the side the much-needed win as they try to emulate last year's performance where they forced Nadroga to a re-match of the promotion-relegation series.

President Sundeep Roy said he was happy with the performance of the boys but not satisfied with the score-line.

"We were leading 2-0 and had chances to score even more goals but we couldn't and in injury time the boys lost concentration and allowed Rakiraki to score," he said.

"But the boys stuck to the game plan that coach Tagi Vonolagi had set for them and they did a good job."

Roy said Vonolagi would work with the team this week to prepare them for the away match next weekend in Rakiraki.

Rakiraki coach Pragdeesh Goundar also praised his players for their efforts.

Their lone goal was scored by Thomas Vuto in injury time.

"The only thing that let us down was the standard of refereeing, the linesmen were biased, but they could be new to it and probably need to officiate more games," he said.

"But good work from the boys and we will go back and work on our weaknesses today (yesterday) for example, fitness and some changes may be made for next week's game because of injuries."

Meanwhile, Rakiraki Football Association (RFA) president Sanjeet Maharaj who passed away last week will be laid to rest today.

"He (Maharaj) had served RFA for a long time, was president before and then coach and president again when he passed away and it was because of him Rakiraki has become a top team in the premier division," Goundar said.
