Village hopes for better services

DOI Village in Ono-i-Lau is hoping they will receive better health services in the future.

Village headman Marika Saurara said this was one of their written recommendations which they were preparing to present to the Constitution Commission.

"There is a need to improve the services provided by health personnels, nurses, doctors because we have been facing difficulties to access the health services on time given our geographical location," he said. Mr Saurara said there were still more developments needed in Doi Village and they will utilise their constitution submission as an opportunity to highlight these needs.

"We have the Doi Women's Centre which was developed in 2011 through the assistance of Ministry of Women and it has played a key role to raise the confidence and generated an interest in people to actively participate in government's initiatives. The centre is an essential tool for income-generation initiatives for the women on Ono-i-Lau and we are hoping for similar projects to flourish in the Lau Group," he said.
