HOMETOWN favourite Vikrant Chandra is aiming to win his first Ba Open title when he competes in the RC Manubhai-sponsored 36 holes event which tees off at the Rarawai course today.

Vikrant, who won the Coastal Rental Nadi Open title last week, has twice come close to winning the Ba Open title.

In 2005 he lost to defending champion Anuresh Chandra by one stroke while last year Anuresh edged him out after an eight holes playoff.

Vikrant said he had won major titles at other venues but not on his home turf.

He said the plan was to make a bright start like last week.

"I really want to win the Ba Open title," the lawyer said.

"I have been winning everywhere else but not in Ba. I took time-off from golf after last Sunday to concentrate on my work.

"I certainly have had enough rest. During the Nadi Open I had a very good opening round which set the platform for my win. I will be hoping for a similar start. Anuresh will be my biggest threat. National reps Olaf Allen Jr and Roneel Prakash are title contenders as well.

Vikrant has a world amateur ranking of 2146.

The tournament will tee off at 8.30am.
