SOME new players have been named by Digicel Fiji sevens coaches Alifereti Dere and Etuate Waqa for the fitness test next Wednesday.
While the available players from the 2011/12 International Rugby Board Sevens World Series have been recalled, the national coaches have named a mixture of young and experienced players for the second fitness test.
Assistant coach Waqa said they had named some players which impressed them during the Digicel Cup competition and the other development tours they had.
Among the newcomers is Australia-based Waisea Varani, who is the only overseas-based player named for the fitness test.
Waqa said Varani called them up asking for an opportunity to try out for the national side.
"The squad has a mixture of players. We have named some under-19 players who are eyed for the future," the former dual international said.
"We are not just looking at the first leg. We want to get the database of the players who can qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics and the World Cup (7s)."
The fitness test will be held at the HPU Gym in Laucala, starting from 9.30am.
The 2012/2013 IRB series begins with the Gold Coast 7s on October 13 and 14.
Meanwhile, the selected players are to bring their passport and two passport size photos including the necessary training gear to the fitness test.
