A FIJI delegation is attending the preparatory meetings of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) in Bangkok.
The five-member delegation which includes the permanent secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Saipora Mataikabara, Fiji's High Commissioner to Malaysia Ratu Meli Bainimarama and Fiji's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Luke Daunivalu is preparing for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting.
Members of AOSIS normally convene a few days ahead of scheduled climate change sessions to prepare for the formal negotiations. The Fiji delegation has actively participated in the AOSIS pre-sessional discussions from earlier this month.
The AOSIS meeting is followed immediately by the preparatory meeting of the Group of 77 commonly known as the G77.
The G77 of which Fiji is a member is made up of 132 developing countries.
Substantive progress on key decisions is expected to be achieved in Bangkok by the parties to the UNFCCC.
