SUGAR cane growers have lauded the Food and Agriculture Organisation's 2012 Asia Pacific Sugar Conference which was held in Nadi last week as a success.
Sugar Cane Growers Council's acting chief executive officer Sundresh Chetty said farmers learnt about global factors that affected the local industry and also recognised the important role they played.
"They have now realised the complexities of the industry as a whole and how challenging it is for Fiji as the country moves forward with reforms and improvement plans," he said.
"Many have expressed interest in modern technologies and we would like to see this adopted into the country to further improve their yields and harvests. So all in all, the conference was a great success," he said.
Mr Chetty said detailed plans outlined by the Fiji Sugar Corporation about diversification were well received.
