THE Hyundai Elantra's victory - as Phillipines Car of the Year award —proves a lot for the brand.

According to information supplied by Carpenters Motors, the award was for the car that best catered for consumers.

Popularity, speed or price had nothing to do with it, the company said.

Carpenters Motors said Hynundai Elantra won the award—accorded by Car Awards Group - ahead of 36 cars and 11 finalists over a one-month period.

The Elantra scored high marks in qualitative tests which included aesthetics, comfort and drivability.

The Elantra offered great value for money. The award is the fourth of its kind for Elantra.

Hyundai Elantra also won the 2012 North American Car of the Year—awarded at the North American International Auto Show. The winners were chosen by a jury of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, Carpenters Motors said.

Awarded by a coalition of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who represent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and websites, the awards are unique, the company said.

The awards are designed to recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year.

The Elantra also claimed the Car of the Year award in Canada, and South Africa.
