Kaji to make changes

THE Fiji Primary Schools Kaji Rugby will rectify and streamline their tournament procedures for next year after the 2012 Milo Kaji was marred with controversies in Nadi.

There were cases of unverified identification cards, wrong official results handed to the organisers from the match officials and lack of medical personnel.

Parents of Cakaudrove and Suva nearly had a free-for-all brawl after the identification of several Cakaudrove players were questioned.

Then Kadavu was unceremoniously bundled out of the under-10 quater-final after someone falsified their official match scorecard against Tailevu.

Milo Kaji secretary Acura Bainivalu said a lot of mess needed to be sorted out.

He said the major problem started when they were forced to shift the tournament to Nadi.

"Cakaudrove was using some cards that were not verified by Fiji Primary Schools Rugby," Bainivalu said.

"So they tried to use the card in the game against Suva. But then the teachers of Suva wanted the players to be verified. We then stood six players from the Cakaudrove team.

"Because of the different opinion and tension, the parents started arguing. They were trying to defend their own teams. In the end we had the identification cards of the Cakaudrove players verified and redone.

"The officiating of the matches were done by referees of the Fiji Rugby Union.

"The problem in Kadavu's case was that the score at the end was different from what was officially handed by the match officials to the organisers. The referee then after an hour gave a different result. But by that time it was too late as the draws were out."

The final between Suva and Macuata in the U14 grade was still underway when this edition went to press last night.
