A UNIVERSITY student was fined $250 for three different charges.

Also Suva Magistrate Yohan Liyanage cancelled a bench warrant issued for the arrest of Fiji National University student Neomai Mele Bera on Wednesday.

Bera was charged with one count of damaging property and another of indecently annoying a person.

On the first count, the court earlier heard that on June 7, the accused damaged a police shirt while the officer was questioning two youths at Samabula with regards to a report.

It also heard that Bera, who smelt of liquor, insulted two police officers and was taken to Samabula Police Station for questioning.

Bera failed to appear in court and was charged with a count of absconding.

In sentencing the accused, Mr Liyanage took the mitigating factors into consideration.

Bera told the court she was a first offender and a student at FNU.

The accused was fined $100 each for the first two counts in default of 10 days imprisonment.

For absconding, Mr Liyanage ordered that Bera pay a fine of $50 in default of five days in prison.

The matter has been adjourned to September 3 for review of payment.
