FIJI'S preparations towards the 2014 general elections were among issues discussed during a bilateral meeting with the New Caledonian executive body.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola met the president of New Caledonia Harold Martin to discuss the implementation of the Noumea Accord, particularly the work of the three steering committees that were established in 2010 to deal with the various pertinent issues emanating from the Accord .

Ratu Inoke is in Noumea leading the Melanesian Spearhead Group ministerial visit to New Caledonia to assess and monitor the implementation of the Noumea Accord as mandated by the MSG Leaders Summit early this year.

He said the meeting discussed bilateral issues relating to areas of co-operation between the two governments.

"It was agreed that both parties would look into more innovative ways to strengthen their economic and bilateral relations," Ratu Inoke said in a statement.

"Given that New Caledonia is a neighbour and that we have good trade and travel connectivity, there are many areas in which we can benefit from each other," he said.
