FIREFIGHTERS in Labasa have extended their services towards Udu Point with the hope of curbing fire incidents.
The first-ever outreach program in the northeast area of Caumatalevu starts today and will end in the weekend.
As part of the Vodafone Nadogo Carnival, the fire officers will demonstrate to villagers the famous smokehouse featuring Smoke Bird and safety tips on fire preventative measures.
Divisional fire officer Northern John Pillay said the initiative was part of their community outreach program.
"We have continuously visited business houses, schools and peri-urban centres with our awareness programs and now it's about time we target the grassroots people," he said.
"This carnival will be a good time to increase our awareness programs because we are expecting a lot of people to be part of it."
The carnival ends on Saturday.
