THE chiefs of Bua on Vanua Levu now have their eyes fixed on a plan to set up stone crushers in the province.
This plan, they believe will boost economic activities and also lead to other developments in the province.
Following developments happening in Bua so far, the chiefs have seen a need to set up stone crushers to be operated by villagers.
Tui Wainunu and secretary of the bose vanua Ratu Orisi Baleitavea said a committee had been formed to look into the setting up of the proposed project.
"We have identified certain areas like the Navakasiga district where the jetty for the bauxite mining sits," Ratu Orisi said.
"These are kind of developments we are looking at and see how we can fit in, in terms of creating opportunities that will bring income to our people," he said.
He said they had also identified a group of professionals to help the vanua of Bua set up the crushers.
"We are looking at successful entrepreneurs whom we know and those involved in the area of infrastructure to help us with advice," Ratu Orisi said.
"It is a good move and in order to take Bua forward, we need to first help ourselves," he said.
"So we are working on this plan and involving villagers because the onus of developing and taking Bua forward lies with us," he added. Funding for the business, he said, had also been discussed.
