A FAMILY of four whose home was hit by a huge boulder in Labasa early this year has finally decided to move away because they fear a similar incident in the future could cost a life.
Still reeling from the dreadful experience that occurred at their Nagigi home, Satish Ram could not stop thanking God his three-year-old daughter Shirastah Ram was saved when the detached rock from a nearby hill landed about 20 centimeters from her in March.
Mr Ram said they decided to move to his in-laws’ residence at Lajonia in Wailevu over the weekend.
“We can’t sleep well every night because we often think that another huge rock might fall again and kill someone this time,” he said.
“My family has been living in Nagigi almost all our lives and now we have no option but to move away for our own safety.
“We will dismantle the house sometimes this week so we can start afresh and move on with our lives in a safer place.”
Mr Ram said his neighbours preferred to stay in Nagigi because they had nowhere else to go.
“While we have moved for safety, our neighbours have opted to stay and hope that such incidents will never happen again because they have nowhere to go.
“They live in fear and they pray for God’s protection every day.”
