THE Labasa businessman who was earlier taken into custody for police investigations over alleged scam involving substantial amount of money remains in police custody and is yet to be charged.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed that the businessman was still under police investigation.

When The Fiji Times visited the house of the businessman yesterday, police were already at the scene to seize machinery parts as part of their investigation. The team was chased away by the businessman (who was there with police) and his workers when they saw the reporter standing at the main road.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri had earlier confirmed to this newspaper that a few witnesses were taken in for questioning over the scam that included former employees of the businessman.

Police were also investigating whether vehicle parts and engines were allegedly stripped off from new machines and installed in the old machines. The alleged scam is the second investigated by police in a period of one week in Vanua Levu.
