ALL past politicians should not be allowed to contest in the next elections.
In his submissions to the Constitution Commission yesterday, 38-year-old villager of Ba, Apisai Sili said the new constitution should give chances to those who could serve their people rather than serving their own interest.
When questioned by members of the commission whether present politician should also be included, Mr Sili replied "only the past politicians".
"Past politicians should not feature at all in the next election," Mr Sili said.
Meanwhile, the commission has to conclude its work by the first week of January 2013.
The Constituency Assembly will then consider and debate the draft constitution which the Commission will have prepared with the help of the people.
The Constituency Assembly has until the third week of March to adopt the constitution when it will be submitted to a five person judicial tribunal headed by the Chief Justice and including at least two foreign judges to determine whether the constitution complies with the values and principles set out in the Fiji Constitutional Process (Constitution Commission) Decree 2012.
Professor Yash Ghai said they did not want to rush the public consultations and hearings which lay at the heart of the process.
