THE Labasa Police rugby team received a timely boost after the only bauxite mine in Fiji handed over new sets of jerseys.

In presenting the new outifts, bauxite mine manager Basilio Vanuaca told the officers that their contribution was part of their community outreach program.

"We have done a lot of community work in Vanua Levu and the donation of rugby jerseys to the police team is part of that.

"They asked us for our assistance and we are here to help develop the community," Vanuaca said.

Assistant team coach Epeli Rikaiwai said the contribution would definitely lift the morale of the boys.

"The boys have been undefeated over the past four weekends in the Macuata Rugby Union club games.

"We had challenged Army and won from them and no other team has taken the cup from us," Rikaiwai said.

He added that support from senior police officers and families of the force had contributed to the outstanding performance of the team.
