VILLAGE profiling has started in Cakaudrove to identify all health determinants in the area.

The initiative is a joint operation between the Cakaudrove Provincial Council and the Ministry of Health in their fight against unhygienic practices and poor sanitation.

"A team of officials have started profiling people last week and we are visiting all the villages inspecting their houses and surroundings," Roko Tui Cakaudrove Ro Aca Mataitini said.

"The campaign and training mainly focuses on hygiene, sanitation and also updating people's health statuses.

"The initiative is expected to contain the spread of non-communicable and communicable diseases in the province," he said.

Meanwhile, Ro Aca said the go green initiative endorsed in the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting in May would also assist them in their health promotion campaign.

"We have received positive response from people regarding our go green initiative which requires them to be vegetarians once a month for a period of one week.

"Some people have taken a strong stand to go on vegetarian diets even though the program is expected to be launched at the end of this year in Taveuni," he said.
