IN just a period of a week, police have unveiled another investigation of an alleged scam in the Northern Division to the value of almost $1 million.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that a businessman is being investigated for the alleged scam.
He said police officers in Labasa have seized a truckload of vehicles and vehicle parts which are now kept at the Labasa Police Station.
Insp Sokomuri also confirmed a mechanic who used to work for the businessman was flown to Labasa from Lautoka in the weekend for questioning over the alleged scam.
He said other witnesses who were also employed by the businessman were being interviewed.
"We have interviewed some witnesses and we took a mechanic to Labasa from Lautoka in the weekend to be interviewed by police.
"Our investigation continues and we are interviewing more people in this case," Insp Sokomuri said.
He said police were also investigating whether old vehicle parts which included car engines were installed in brand new vehicles and vice-versa as part of the alleged scam.
This is the second case of alleged scam involving a substantial amount of money being investigated by police in Labasa in a period of a week.
