Focus on gas quality

THE Consumer Council of Fiji wants the quality and volume of gas checked.

Council chief executive officer Premila Kumar made the comment yesterday as gas prices go down today following a decision earlier announced by the Commerce Commission.

"Attention must also be paid to the quality of gas. There is no legislation or standards in place to ensure consumers are receiving quality gas with correct volume.

"Consumers are also questioning as to who is checking the moisture content of the already filled cylinders?" she said.

The quality check and certification of cylinders must also be studied carefully, Mrs Kumar said. "Council findings reveal that some cylinders were tested more than two decades ago while in other countries gas cylinders carry an expiry date from safety perspective," she said.
