THE Constitution Commission has set the deadline of October 10 for the submission of views.

However, the general public will have another opportunity to make their views — this time on the draft constitution prepared by the commission.

Commission chairman Professor Yash Ghai said it was their responsibility to collect people's comments and submit them to the President for submissions to the Constituent Assembly at the same time as the draft constitution.

"We have to visit many parts of the country as possible to hold public meetings and hearings," Prof Ghai said.

"Submissions to it may be written or oral, in principal all our hearings must be public," said Prof Ghai.

He said in order to encourage people to make submissions to the commission, the decree authorised the making of submissions in the language they were most at home with, while those with hearing impairment were entitled to the use of sign language. He said they were free to express their ideas in every day language and speech.
