IT was more like a family affair at the Body Life Gym Super Sprint Triathlon event at the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) Compound in Nadi last Saturday.
The event, which was organised to help raise funds for national female triathlete Nau Dakuliga's tour to the World Championship was hailed a success by its organisers.
"The triathlon was a success," said organiser Tuidraki Valentine and Body Life Gym instructor and owner.
"It was well-organised and was well- supported by the companies, schools, swimming teams, families, Nadi Hash Runners and ATS Pacific. Mrs Veronica Haua and Mrs Debbie Davids were a huge support, supplying free hot dogs, hot Milo, hot coffee and sale of beer for the grown ups."
She said money collected from the sale was directed towards the funding of Nau to the World Triathlon Championship.
"Carol West of Professional Realty Fiji Ltd with her Team Princesses, Casey Quimby and her team of Barracudas Swimmers, Mrs Pitila Thompson with Mako Swim Club and Percy Navolo and his cyclist were very supportive," she said. "Most of the participants were first-timers (never done triathlon) and really enjoyed participating and are looking forward to the next one."
Team Hawaii and Team Top Gun and Junior graders in Aaron Valentine, Rhys Cheer and Moana Leper Wind competed in the 200metres swim, 5km bike event and 1km run.
"The response from the parents and participants were overwhelming, asking when is the next triathlon event," Valentine said. She added they wanted to include primary and high schools, sporting teams and business houses in the next event.
