THE National Fire Authority is concerned with the increasing number of structural fires despite the many awareness campaigns it has conducted.
For the Western Division, NFA has this year recorded a total of 20 structural fires.
The total number of structural fires stands at 49 compared to 48 for the first seven months last year.
NFA chief executive officer John O'Connor said he was concerned about the trend after a fire in Lautoka this week razed a four-bedroom house leaving seven people homeless.
Mr O'Connor said investigations had revealed the majority of those home fires could have been easily avoided if simple precautions had been taken.
