67 inmates harvest cane

THE sugar cane harvesting program involving inmates in the Western Division is progressing well with more than 200 tonnes of cane already harvested for the Sugar Research Institute.

West Corrections Service supervisor Assistant Superintendent Oliver Fisher said apart from work at the SRI, 19 inmates were also harvesting cane for an independent farmer at Johnson Rd, Lautoka.

"A total of 67 inmates have been deployed for the cane cutting exercise in our bid to assist the sugar ministry fulfil its annual production target," ASP Fisher said.

Meanwhile, Ba corrections officers have joined police and the National Fire Authority in a walk for life program. The initiative is to help combat obesity and diabetes.
