A FIVE-year-old girl has been evacuated to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital after she was skewered by a coconut husking spear at her home in Macuata.

The girl, who was airlifted on Monday, suffered injuries to her back and was rushed to the Labasa Hospital in the weekend. The incident happened at Laqere, Tabia, outside Labasa Town.

It has prompted a police reminder to parents to always supervise their children.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro has urged parents to closely supervise their children, know their whereabouts and what they are doing.

The kindergarten student had climbed on top of their chicken shed and while trying to reach an object, slipped and fell on the exposed coconut husker.

"She was evacuated to the CWM Hospital for further observation," she said.
