Olaf, Roneel reign

OLAF Allen Jr and Roneel Prakash successfully defended the Srixon Cleveland- sponsored Fiji Amateur Foursomes Championship at the Lautoka Golf Club on Sunday.

The duo carded 144 to win the overall gross title.

Prakash said they were able to maintain their composure over 36 holes.

He said the Golf Links course was challenging.

"It is a nine-hole golf course with some hilly terrain," Prakash said.

"I must thank my partner Olaf for playing some excellent shots. We did the simple things right. At the end we cruised to victory by six shots."

Allen and Prakash walked away with a Srixon Cleveland golf bag each worth $300.

National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Amitesh Chandra and Baroon Hussein were the runners-up. They scored 150.

Canada-based former Fiji rep Jalen Raman and A. Chand were third with 151.

Kavitesh Prasad and Jeral Sharma won the overall nett. Prasad and Sharma scored 135. Vinod Chand and Sunia Radovu were the runners-up with 142. Tristan Levestam and Michael Nair were third with 144. Vijay Krishna and Nilesh Chand took out the nearest to the pin prizes while Vikrant Chandra hit the longest drive.

NGAF secretary Amitesh said sponsor Srixon Cleveland would be supporting the club championship competitions of all golf clubs in the Western Division.

"The sponsors have supported the Nadi Airport Golf Club's 2012 Championship competition,"Amitesh said. "They will also be supporting the Lautoka, Ba and Vatukoula clubs as well."

Meanwhile, the NGAF fundraising tournament will be held at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club in Nadi this Sunday. Funds raised from the tournament will be channelled towards Fiji's participation in the World Amateur Teams Championship in Turkey in October.
