All quiet in northern town

NO major cases were received by the police in the Northern Division over the weekend.

With about 9000 people converging on Labasa to watch the Battle of the Giants tournament, officers patrolled the streets to ensure a safe weekend for all.

Police north media officer Constable Luke Rawalai said it was a quiet weekend despite the hive of activity.

"Our officers were on standby not only at Subrail Park but also on the streets in town to see that people adhere to the law," Constable Rawalai said.

"We didn't receive any case of interest as most people came with a motive to watch the tournament and not to stir up trouble.

"Such positive results are important because this will result in more major tournaments being organised in the north in future." Constable Rawalai said officers along with other security companies joined forces to monitor events.
