THE grisly discovery of a baby's body in the Nausori bus stand public toilet has triggered police concerns about the psychological state of expecting mothers.
Speaking to The Fiji Times, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said women who were considering such actions needed to be aware that there were avenues available to help them cope.
Ms Naisoro said the discovery was made by a cleaner at the Nausori bus stand.
"The discovery was made by a council worker yesterday morning.
"The baby had been left in a plastic parcel in the women's toilet," Ms Naisoro said.
"The cleaner told police he discovered the parcel on Friday and left it in a high place thinking someone had forgotten it and would come back to claim the parcel.
"Upon returning on Sunday, he discovered the same package in the same place.
"And on opening it saw the body of a baby inside," said Ms Naisoro.
She said police were requesting information from members of the public on the incident.
The post mortem examination is expected to be carried out today.
