Firefighters attend to BOG injuries

APART from controlling fire, a group of fire officers in Vanua Levu took time out yesterday to apply their paramedic skills at the Innk Mobile Battle of the Giants (BOG) tournament at Subrail Park.

The officers were tasked to assist players who encountered injuries or minor hiccups on the fields without the presence of health experts.

Divisional fire officer northern John Pillay said they decided to embark on the exercise to explore their skills after attending certain workshops on paramedics in the past years.

"This is a chance for the officers to expose what they have learnt and it's really a big boost for them because they are practising their skills in front of a large crowd," Pillay said.

"We are fortunate to be part of this exercise as we work towards saving lives.

"The officers not only help victims of fire incidents but we are also extending our services into other fields," he said.

Pillay said they hoped to continue such exercises in the future because it greatly increased the learning capacity of officers in the medical field.
