CRICKET Fiji's (CF) preparations to host the East Asia Pacific (EAP) International Under-17 Championship received a major boost.
Renowned hotel group, Novotel handed over a cheque worth $3000 to CF last week.
CF chief executive officer Sonny Henderson thanked Novotel and said the event was important to Fiji as it would help lift the image of the sport.
"To get a big hotel like Novotel means a lot to Cricket Fiji and we are so thankful to Novotel for their support," Henderson said.
"The event will help build the image of the sport in the country especially in a region that was once considered as a power house of cricket in the past," he said.
The tournament, which will be held on Lautoka from August 27 to 30, will see Fiji, Vanuatu and the region's top country, Papua New Guinea, compete to earn the bragging rights as champions of the U17 grade in the EAP region.
The international event will be the second time international underage cricket event has been held in Fiji.
The national U17 squad will be holding their final trials at the Albert Park tomorrow to determine the final 14 players that will carry Fiji's flag in August.
The team will be named at the end of the trials.
