THE teen contestants for this year's Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus Festival were educated on social issues.
Representatives from the police drug, sexual offences units made presentations during the teens' inform session on Saturday.
Contestants chairwoman Renata Ram said the idea behind the inform sessions was to ensure contestants were well informed on issues affecting Fiji.
She said the sessions provided the contestants the opportunity meet the people who dealt with respective programs dealing with those issues.
"We have been doing this (inform session) since 2008 but we have not put so much media emphasis on it," she said.
"We want to ensure that the contestants are aware of the issues and can answer any question on them because they will have the attention of more than 300,000 people in Fiji and the Pacific."
Contestants for the queen competition participated in a television advertisement shoot for the text to win promotion.
Ms Ram said funds raised from the text to win competition would go towards the charity chest.
