ABOUT 40 passengers travelling on a bus from Suva to Lautoka were spared from serious injury when the passenger side window was shattered, as a result of a missile claimed to have been hurled by an unidentified person on Tuesday evening.
The driver of the brand new air-conditioned Sunbeam Transport Limited bus, Ram Murti, was shocked.
"This is the first time anything like this has happened in the 43 years I have been driving buses. Whoever did it should be ashamed because it could have caused a big accident where people could have been seriously injured," said the 63-year-old.
Sunbeam's managing director Abdul Wahab said while it was unfortunate, he was thankful that no one was hurt.
"We will have to replace the passenger side glass at considerable cost but the main thing is that nobody got hurt," he said.
The 7-month-old Hino Legacy air-conditioned coach was minutes away from the Lautoka bus terminal on terminal when the incident happened at Navutu about 7pm. Police spokeswoman west Naina Ragigia said they were investigating the incident.
