IT is a different approach for police officers at the Dreketi Police Post in Macuata who have integrated into the community.
Building new homes for families who have lost their properties, liaising with other government departments to inform them of residents concerns over certain issues, protecting the business houses and farming for the elderly are all part of their new help program.
The initiative was part of the officers' discussion at the post and has been applauded by the Dreketi community.
Last Friday, a team of police officers visited a family in Malawai, Dreketi, who lost their home to a fire last weekend.
Team leader Iliavi Macawai said they have developed the concept of 'Walk the Talk' in Dreketi.
The team assisted Hans Raj and his wife Indra Wati clear the debris left behind by the fire that destroyed their home.
The officers removed the remaining house structure and piled roofing iron at one side of the compound. They also donated a carton of nails that was given by their families and business people in Dreketi.
Mr Raj said the help from the officers had lightened the load for his family.
"I am so happy the officers came to clear all the rubbish in this area. They have been very helpful in this community and seeing them come to us will make us more bold to go out of our way to help them with their work."
