Big screen costs 'arm and a leg'

THE recent introduction of a high-tech screen in Suva is a crowd stopper.

The light-emitting diode or LED screen, mounted on BSP Life building at the corner of Central and Thomson streets in Suva City is quick becoming a traffic stopper.

Built in and imported from China, the screen was mounted following the work of video producer Hendrick De Jong of Magnum Productions.

"My screen is fully automated and fitted with an automatic brightness control. This feature automatically lowers the brightness at night or during heavy cloud cover. This is important feature as otherwise the screens become over-bright at night," he said.

Measuring 7.2 metres wide and standing at 4.1 metres, the LED screen, which was launched in recent days, cost "an arm and a leg", he said.

"The screen has only been operating for a few days. The feedback and response from advertisers has been very positive.

"I researched the business for more than one year, learning about how the business works and the equipment before making a decision to go ahead. The equipment and technology is high tech. I needed to know everything before I started because there isn't any LED technician in Fiji. I had to travel overseas to attend a training course," Mr Jong said.
